To generate audience figures JICREG uses data from audience surveys commissioned by publishers where they have been carried out to JICREG standards, or uses JICREG models for regional morning, evening, weekly free or weekly paid-for newspapers, and local paper websites. To be eligible to join JICREG newspapers must have regular ABC, VFD or independently audited circulation figures and be able to provide circulation breakdowns at postcode sector level and websites have to be produced by publishers who have audited the top 10 or 10% of websites and be linked to local papers. JICREG does not maintain its own databases but uses information from the NS database and Media Portfolio database to generate audience figures, so newspapers and websites also have to be subscribers to the Newspaper Society.
Benefits of membership for publishers:- Inclusion in the currency by which most advertising in the local media is bought and sold.
- Provision of detailed audience figures with geographical flexibility enabling a newspaper's or website's performance to be established within any marketing area.
